Luke Bryan Interview

I recently got to speak with Luke Bryan. Luke is climbing the country music charts and really making a name for himself. Here is part of the interview with a link to the rest.

Luke Bryan is a country music singer/songwriter, he made his debut in 2007 with the song "All my Friends Say" off his album titled "I'll Stay Me". Luke was born and raised in Leesburg, Georgia. Before his CD debut, Luke Bryan moved to Nashville in 2001 and got a deal as a songwriter. Luke co-wrote "Good Directions" which spent three weeks at #1 on Billboards U.S hot country songs charts in 2007 for country singer Billy Currington. Luke is having great success in country music and I was lucky enough to land a interview with this country artist, who has already achieved so much and has many great things ahead of him.

Luke was just a few minutes late in calling and he explained to me why.

Luke - I'm in my home town and I was where everyone picks up their hunting supplies and I walked in and the local radio station by coincidence was doing a live remote at this little place, so it turned into me going on air and signing all kinds of stuff so it kind of turned into being on the spot.

So you had a busy morning start off right away.

Luke - Yes Ma'am, but you know that's all a part of it. But at least they want to talk to me it could be the other way.

What is your favorite song on your album?

Luke - My favorite song is certainly "We Rode in Trucks" It tells my story, it tells what I'm about, and it has always kind of been my favorite song on the album.

I Nine have just released the video for their first single, “Seven Days of Lonely.” The song will quickly open people's ears up to the enchanting, melodic sound of the band. I Nine is a quartet from Orangeburg, a town in central South Carolina. I Nine members consist of the charismatic lead singer, Carmen Keigans, Bryan Gibson on lead guitar and cello, Matt Heath on bass and Brian Whitman on guitar. Together the four members have influences of traditional rock 'n roll and, of course, southern rock. However, \the songs of I Nine that veers between pop and more artsy, moody tunes this is the result of having four people in a band who are all gifted songwriters.
I Nine’s debut album, Heavy Weighs the King, is going to be released in 2008. You can watch the video for “Seven Days of Lonely” today! For Windows Media go here, Quick Time go here.

Judd Starr Interview

Yesterday I posted that I had a interview with Judd Starr it has now been published.

Interview with Judd Starr
A Musician with More Than Just a Wonderful Voice
By Cindy Wright
You may not have heard of Judd Starr yet. I had not heard of him until a few days ago. I found the video "Firefly" and it caught my attention so much that I was immediately interested in finding out more about Judd Star. I wanted to share this music with more people.
Here is some background information about Judd Starr before we get to the interview. Judd Starr writes, plays all the instruments, mixed and recorded each song on his CD "Luminescent". Judd has recorded music that has appeared on MTV and NBC television shows as well as movies and more. Judd's fans or supporters, (which is what he prefers to call them), support him completely. One such supporter said something to me that I think sums up perfectly what his supporters think of Judd Starr, as a musician and how he treats those who support him. I am sure she does not mind me quoting her; Debbie said this about Judd "This man is VERY devoted; he knows each of us and is grateful for the support and friendship. I love him, so many of my friends are now his friends and fans and many have become Judd addicts and have purchased his album. By the way, it is VERY good; He is truly a music genius."

When did you get started with music?

Judd - Probably 9 or 10 years old, I remember teaching myself the piano (we had a really beaten-up piano with broken keys), figuring-out which keys sounded good together, etc. Then at about 11 years old, I took 2 tape recorders, which were lying around the house, taped myself playing the piano on one, then recorded myself singing on the other, back and forth....so I was laying tracks without even knowing it. My mom and dad were pretty shocked when they heard it. I still remember the song. That eventually led to my first professional recording at 14.

What inspires you to write your songs?

Judd - Knowing there are people interested in listening to what I do. That inspires me.

Which song on Luminescent is your favorite?

Judd - Aside from "Firefly" I think "Anything" or "The Letter".

Read the rest here.

Taylor Hicks Thursday

It’s Thursday, which means it is Taylor Hicks Day here at “Live.” Taylor is on hiatus, taking a well deserved break and writing music for his second CD. Because of this there isn’t much new news to report about Taylor. So I’ve been thinking what I want to discuss about Taylor Hicks.

Music is something that we can all relate to. We may not all like the same artists however we all know we could not live without music. Different moods make us want to listen to different types of music. How do we find out the new artists that are out there? Most of us rely on radio and television to show us new talent. This is how I had been my whole life.

Then when Taylor was discovered because of American Idol, I went on line to see if I could find some more information about him. I found out he had 2 Independent CDS. “The Fall” was the first song that I listened to of Taylor’s pre-idol music. It has been my fav ever since. I also love “Heart and Soul”, “The Deal”, “Hell of a Day” and “Soul Thing.”

Then I started wondering how I had never heard of Taylor Hicks before. The songs on “In Your Time” and “Under the Radar” are great. Taylor’s voice is one of the best voices I have ever heard. The record producers just ignored Taylor, for ten years he pounded on doors trying to get someone to just give him a chance, to let America hear his voice. We all know this did not happen. Until the day he walked into American Idol. The judges passed him through long enough to where America got to vote. We the listening audience knew Taylor was just what the music world had been waiting for. He was a change that we had been waiting for and we proved it each week, voting for him until he won the show.

So after all this I realized if all I did was listen to radio and television waiting for them to introduce to the next great person I might be waiting for along time. I knew Taylor Hicks had been out their performing and he had a fan base before he even went on Idol. I just had never heard of him until AI. That’s when I realized if I wanted to discover music that I truly enjoyed and was not force fed on me by radio stations playing their choices over and over, I was going to have to find the music myself.

I started looking on Myspace for Indie artists, or just those I had never heard before. Over the past year and a half since Taylor’s win I have found some artists that I truly enjoy and am so glad to have discovered them. Such as Ross Copperman The Hughes
Relient K and most recently Judd Starr, who I just interviewed and the interview will be published soon. Below you will see his video “Firefly.” I really love this video and his other songs on his CD. I am sure if you go searching for undiscovered or not highly promoted artists you will find some great new music to add to your own play list.

It’s My Life

Jimmy Buffett

Jimmy Buffett is a perfect example of someone who loves the “Live” audience and the audience loves Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy began his musical career in Nashville, Tennessee during the late 1960s as a country artist. He then moved to Key West and lived the easy-going lifestyle of a beach bum persona for which he is known.

During the 1980s, Jimmy made far more money off his tours than albums and became known as a popular concert draw, which still holds true today. Jimmy continues to tour throughout the year although he now has a more relaxed schedule of around 20-30 dates, and rarely on back-to-back nights, he prefers to play only on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Jimmy Buffett’s devoted fan base is known as the “ParrottHeads”. The ParrottHeads party with a purpose, and they hold fundraiser events for different causes. Events range from single act concerts or happy hours to the annual Meeting of the Minds in Key West, Florida, which attracts approximately 3,500 Parrottheads each year. The several days of events, sponsored by the Parrot Heads in Paradise includes live music, and also a Toys for Tots drive, a blood drive, raffles and other events to raise money for charities. Some regional groups will focus on one or two key charities, while others may switch between several. They also help environmental causes, cancer research, Alzheimer's research and the March of Dimes all have received large donations from ParrottHead organizations. The fan base is as devoted to helping others as they are to Jimmy Buffett.
Of the over 30 albums Jimmy Buffett has released, as of October, 2007, he has 8 Gold Albums and 9 Platinum or Multi Platinum Albums. In 2003 Jimmy won his first ever County Music Award (CMA) for his song "It's 5 O'clock Somewhere" with Alan Jackson, and has been nominated again in 2007 for the CMA Event of the Year Award for his song "Hey Good Lookin" which features Alan Jackson and George Strait.
Jimmy Buffetts concerts are so popular that purchasing tickets is difficult with most of his concerts selling out in minutes. See below for the Videos “Hey Good Lookin” and a live performance of “Margaritaville”.

AMY WINEHOUSE CONFIRMED FOR RARE U.S. PERFORMANCE

New York, NY – October 11, 2007 – Building on a tradition that’s placed college students front and center for unforgettable live performances from Beck, Death Cab for Cutie, Gym Class Heroes, TV on the Radio, Saul Williams and many others, today mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, confirmed that Amy Winehouse, The Academy Is… and Spank Rock are all set to perform at the 2007 “mtvU Woodie Awards.” The only awards to honor the music voted best by the college audience, the 2007 “mtvU Woodies” will take place November 8th at Roseland Ballroom in New York City and premiere simultaneously on mtvU and mtvU.com November 15th at 8pm ET. An encore performance will follow on MTV2 November 18th at 12:30am ET and MTV will also showcase highlights from show.

In February of this year, Amy Winehouse was named to mtvU’s “Freshmen Five,” a semi-annual list of emerging acts poised to ride college student support to mainstream notoriety, and a few months later she did just that – quickly becoming one of the biggest names in contemporary music. The acclaimed North London songstress will treat students to a rare U.S. performance at the “Woodies,” one of only two scheduled for the remainder of 2007. Also on hand to shake things up will be student favorites The Academy Is…, backed by mtvU since the release of their debut album, Almost Here. Since then the band has rocked mtvU’s “Campus Invasion Music Festival ’07,” “Spring Break” and registered some of the most highly streamed video premieres in the history of mtvU.com. In addition, The Academy Is… is currently headlining a nearly 60 stop fall tour presented by mtvU and also featuring Armor For Sleep, The Rocket Summer and Sherwood. Philadelphia-bred hip hop group Spank Rock are getting noticed with their breakout first single "Rick Ruben," off of their experimental debut album YoYoYoYoYo, and with strong student demand, have found themselves in heavy rotation on mtvU. The group’s new release Bangers & Cash EP, released on Downtown Records, hit stores on October 9th.

Top nominees for the 2007 “mtvU Woodie Awards” include The Shins – with nominations in the “Woodie of the Year,” “Alumni Woodie,” and “Viral Woodie” categories – followed by Modest Mouse, Gym Class Heroes, Lily Allen, Justice, Linkin Park and The Academy Is…, with two nods each. Other prominent nominees include headliner Amy Winehouse, Arcade Fire, Lil’ Wayne, Bright Eyes, The Knife, Common, Klaxons, M.I.A., Spoon, CSS, The Rapture, TV on the Radio, Thom Yorke and Paramore. Nearly fifty emerging and influential artists are nominated for the fourth annual “mtvU Woodies.” Additional “Woodies” performers and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks.

Powered by college students from across the country, the fourth annual “mtvU Woodie Awards” will feature students in front of the camera and behind the scenes, as they present, introduce and honor their favorite music and artists. College students have helped establish the “mtvU Woodies” as a crystal ball for the music about to break big, helping their favorite artists “graduate” to MTV2, MTV and wider success – including record sales, sold out tours and accolades at other award shows. Some of the most notable success stories from the past few years include Fall Out Boy, the Killers, Death Cab for Cutie and the Plain White T’s, all of which saw their careers skyrocket after the “Woodies.”

For more on “Woodie”-related programming, ways to win a trip to this year’s show, exclusive interviews with nominated artists and music videos from all of this year’s nominees, please visit mtvU.com. A full line-up of performers, presenters and more will be announced in the coming weeks.

The fourth-annual “mtvU Woodie Awards” is sponsored by Citi, Ford College Student Purchase Program, Garnier Fructis and T-Mobile.

Taylor Thursday

A lot of fans wonder if Taylor Hicks is still happy that he won American Idol, and is now know all over. I’m sure any musician/celebrity at times has moments when they wonder if it was all worth it. They have lost the ability to come and go where they please, and just enjoy the piece and quiet of going where they want. However they also are doing what they have always wanted to do, in most cases dong what their heart and soul calls them to do.

So I am reminded of a quote by Taylor after his win

Quote from Taylor Hicks:

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly:

"I'm so excited to be having this opportunity. I'm living the American dream."

Taylor is a smart man he knew what he was getting into before he even went on Idol. Now sure at first he just was hoping to get some exposure and get his name out there to get some gigs. As the show went on and Taylor stayed and his fan base continued to grow, he had to know his entire life was in for an abrupt change. Is Taylor still excited? He has been on tour since February, before that he was recording his CD, doing interviews and appearances; he has been so busy that I am sure time to even breathe was a challenge. He is now on a much deserved break and working on his second CD. I just watched a video from Millersville. This is after 8 months of touring. Taylor looks so happy in this video. He is still living the American Dream.

Indie Wednesday - Jonalee White

Good Morning and Happy Indie Wednesday. This is my first Indie Wednesday and my first artist is Jonalee White. I have enjoyed 2 concerts of Jonalee’s when she opened for Bucky Covington in Chillicothe and Dayton Ohio. The first concert was rained out but Jonalee did get to sing a couple songs before the storm came in. Not only does Jonalee have a beautiful voice she is such a sweet and patient person. I saw Jonalee among the fans signing autographs and taking the time to talk to them and take pictures with them.

Jonalee White has a sultry country voice. Jonalee has performed with such artists as Dierks Bentley, Clay Walker, McGuffey Lane and as I said before Bucky Covingoton all over the United States. She was a finalist on NBC’s show Star Tomorrow and CMT Music City Madness. She was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania then she went south to Lexington, Kentucky where she graduated college with a Master's in school counseling. Now she is in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jonalee sings with musicians all over the state of Ohio. She gives fans an upbeat show.

You can catch a “Live” concert soon at these places

October 20th in Bainbridge Ohio at the Fall Festival of Leaves
October 27th in Dayton Ohio at the Hauntfest in Oregon
Check her page for more locations.

View Jonalee White Videos.

Please visit Jonalee’s pages at Myspace and her official site.

Theme Days

“Live” will have Theme days. These are days that a post will be made related to a theme of the day. Monday will be Concert Monday. I will either let you know about upcoming concerts, have a recap from someone who attended a concert or maybe both. So if you attend a concert and you want to share it with me and the blogging universe, drop me a line. If you know of an upcoming concert, let me know in case I don’t know about it. Wednesday is Indie Wednesday, on Wednesdays I will show case an independent musician that I have heard or read about. Taylor Thursday will be Taylor Hicks day. If there is new news that will be here, or maybe I will just look back at something from the past. Sundays are Elvis day. Elvis Presley was a true “Live” performer. He always had sold out shows and gave the audience exactly what they wanted. I will look back at his legendary concerts.

Theme day is not just for the Theme if I have other posts for the day they will also be here, however the Theme post will defiantly be here. Unless I get sick or runaway, I’ll be back later with the first Indie Wednesday.

John Mayer - The Evolution will be televised

This is what Live music is all about. Below is a excerpt from a blog by John Mayer. To hear a song while it is still fresh and new. To be among the first to experience John Mayer in concert performing a song that no one has heard yet. That is what “Live” music is all about, new and exciting experiences.

Posted by John Mayer on October 14th

It's been a long time since the days of my playing small acoustic club dates, and though I'm more than happy (and extremely lucky) to be where I am these days, one thing I've missed is the creative spirit of working without a net. Some of my best songs were written because I had a show nearing and needed more original songs to take the place of covers. It was creation by way of necessity.

It's been my stance for years that I don't want to work out new songs on stage for fear of them getting out in their raw form. I've always believed that in music, the first impression is the most lasting, and I wanted to have the say as to when a song would be heard and in what incarnation.

I'm ready to change that stance now. I've realized that there's a new level of access into my life, one that I accept as a by-product of both lifestyle and technology. And if there's going to remain such a large window into my life off-stage, I feel like I need to open the window to my music equally as wide. I am still as devoted to music as I've ever been, and I won't let anything redefine that against my will.

I'm going to return to that firefight, taking small late night gigs around New York City and Los Angeles, writing songs and playing them when they're still fresh. The date of the gig is my self-imposed finish line and I will play a new song with each set I perform.

To read the rest visit John's Blog.

John Mayer - Heart Of Life

Live Music Verses Recorded Music

How important is recorded music to you? You probably automatically thought “It is very important”. Yes this is true, it is important, to an extent however. You might be listening to music now and you probably have a stack of CDs or recordings in your computer. Recordings however are a poor substitute for Live Music. Recordings do take us away from our current environment. We get involved in the music and think of happier times. We remember songs we have heard before and we can usually remember special times related to the song. We usually have a song that reminds of us an ex or something like that. But the exact time and place we first heard that song or the excitement we felt tend to fade over time.

Now think about when you attended a concert. Music we enjoy Live, leaves a bigger impression on us. A concert is a visual as well as an audio experience. I bet when you think of a concert you were at you remember the excitement of the concert, the surroundings, the other concert goers and how they acted, you know what songs were sang and how you felt each time you heard “that song”, if it was an outdoor concert you probably can even remember how the weather was that day, if it was a holiday concert you remember the holiday. You remember how the musician entertained the audience, how they involved the audience in the show.

Live Music is more then just an auditory experience. Live Music is something that uses all of our senses in one way or another. We see and hear the musician, we can feel the excitement in the air, maybe you got to shake the artists hand, hug them or just talk to them and tell them how much you admire them. You interact with the other concert goers.

A recorded song is usually altered in some way to try and create perfection. New sounds are added or the voice is given something technical to give the voice a different sound. With Live music you get the real deal. You get the real voice and as a plus you see the artist in all their glory interacting with the audience, putting on a show that will forever stay in your mind.

Musicians playing Live Music create a sense of excitement that turns an ordinary evening into something special. A recording can not do that. Any thoughts of Live verses Recordings lease feel free to leave them.
